a 3-minute reset
Awake at 3am? Here's how to calm down.
Start the reset below — it runs right here, no signup, no app. It's a short body-scan that takes the pressure off falling back asleep. Read on for why 3am wake-ups happen.
A short body-scan can help quiet a racing mind and take the pressure off falling asleep.
Slow supports general relaxation. It isn't medical advice or treatment. In crisis, call or text 988 (US), or text HOME to 741741.
Why you wake at 3am — and why this helps
Waking in the small hours is incredibly common. Sleep gets lighter in the second half of the night, and a small natural rise in alertness can be enough to surface a worry. Once you're awake, the frustration of "I need to sleep" raises your arousal further — which is exactly what keeps you up.
The trick is to stop trying to sleep. A slow body-scan gives your attention something gentle to rest on, lengthens your exhale, and quietly lowers that arousal. You're not chasing sleep; you're giving your body real rest, and sleep tends to return on its own once the pressure is off.
If 3am wake-ups are a regular pattern, or you wake unrefreshed most days, it's worth talking to a doctor — ongoing insomnia responds well to proper care (like CBT-I). Slow supports relaxation; it isn't medical treatment.
That's one reset. Slow gives you the right one for any feeling — one tap, no scrolling.
